In the 1980s Nancyb Davis played pop covers while touring the US…but all the while she was loving jazz. Upon returning to her native Sacramento, influenced by Miles Davis and soul-jazz, Nancyb played the standards with notable musicians in Sacramento including Aaron Garner and Steve Homan, at Auburn, CA‘s State Theatre and other local venues. From 2013 to 2017 Nancyb Davis began composing jazz songs, headed Song Writers In Kind, a showcase within the First Congregational Church of Auburn UCC, an open and affirming church, and studied with Henry Robinett, a jazz luminary in Sacramento, and member of Charles Mingus’s family. In 2019 she formed a jazz trio in Trinidad, CA, Nancyb and the Do Rites, and in 2021 she formed Happy’s Back Trio in San Jose. Happy’s Back trio is currently recording original songs at Acoustic Sound Shop Studios in San Jose, featuring Kenny Stahl on flute.
